Extremely low emission digital (latest generation) X-ray machines

There is more than enough radiation in our environment and going to the dentist should not be a great addition to that exposure. We installed a new generation of X-ray machines which greatly reduces exposure. Each exposure is less than that of normal background radiation and is a considerable step in keeping you safe during the diagnosis and assessment.
Our digital Full Face PAN also uses this same technology.

Nitrous Sedation
Sometimes the idea of going to the dentist brings on a strong sense of fear. or in other cases, severe oral damage may require considerable work that strains the patient. For those types of cases we can offer Nitrous Oxide sedation. This may take off the edge so that you can easily get dental care required to keep your smile bright. Nitrous oxide is the easiest form of sedation in dentistry and has been used for more than a century. Also known as "laughing gas", this iron oxide is inhaled through a mask and gives a feeling of relaxation and even euphoria. It works very quickly and disipates quickly with no lasting effect immediately when removed. Consult with Dr. Karkan to see if Nitrous Sedation is right for your specific case. |
Diagnostic and Preventive Care
Dental Exams and X-Rays
An examination of your teeth, gums and surrounding oral tissues. We regularly check for abnormalities and screen for oral cancer.
Night Guard
A nightguard is a custom-made plastic device to fit over your upper or lower teeth and allows your teeth to glide over the guard instead of your opposing teeth. Night Guards are used for patients with bruxism (Grinding and clenching) and/or TMJ disorders. Typically, teeth grinding is stress-related, but can also be caused by misalignment of your teeth. This grinding can create large amounts of destructive forces on your teeth, jaw joints and jaw muscles. Symptoms of grinding include sore jaw muscles, headaches and neck pain, especially when experienced in the morning when you wake up. Evidence of grinding may be visible as damage to the edges of your teeth and/or gum recession.

Periodontal
Our routine dental cleaning include of scaling, root planning of deep pockets, and polishing. These procedures involve removal of plaque and tartar from all tooth surfaces.
Scaling is usually done by hand with instruments and with electronic scalers. Ultrasonic scalers quickly remove plaque and tartar on the superficial surface of teeth, while hand scaling removes the remaining tartar attached to the root surfaces. When there is a deep pocket formed between the tooth and gum, deep cleaning and root planning is necessary to reduce the pocketing. Sealant
The chewing surfaces of the molar and premolar teeth have grooves that make them vulnerable to decay. These fissures can be deep and are difficult to clean, Plaque accumulates in these areas, and the acid from bacteria in the plaque attacks the enamel and cavities can develop. Dental sealants are plastic coatings that are usually placed on these chewing surfaces of the back teeth to help protect them from decay. The sealant are used for children as the teeth have fully erupted.

Restorative Treatments
Fillings
We primarily use tooth-coloured fillings at Corona. Composite material can be used to restore your teeth. This material bonds to your teeth and matches the shade of your teeth. We can use this material to close gaps between teeth, as well as repair chips, discolorations, and fill cavities. The strength and longevity of a composite filling depends on how large the filling is and its location in the mouth.
Extractions
The removal of a tooth due to decay or in the interest of better overall dental health.

Crown and Bridge
A crown is a restoration that is cemented over an entire tooth, fitting like a “cap.” There are several occasions when crowns are necessary to place over the teeth such as fractures teeth and teeth that have had root canal. Crowns protect the tooth to prevent further fracturing and breakdown of remaining tooth structure. There are several types of crowns such as Gold, Amalgam, Porcelain and Porcelain fused to metal.
A bridge is used to fill in spaces where teeth are absent and also incorporates the teeth on either side of the gap. Crown and Bridgework may consist of metal, porcelain or other material. VeneersVeneer is a thin layer of material applied to the entire front surface of the tooth. It is used to fix cavities, broken teeth or to improve the look of healthy teeth. There are two main types of material used to fabricate a veneer: composite and dental porcelain. Veneers make your teeth look better by changing their colour, shape, angle or spacing.
Partial Dentures
A removable partial denture (RPD) is for a partially edentulous dental patient who desires to have replacement teeth for functional or aesthetic reasons. RPD needs removal at night for cleaning.

Whitening
Custom-made whitening trays for your upper and lower teeth are made from impressions. Whitening gel is placed in the trays and worn in the mouth for about 30 minutes every day for a week-10 days to whiten your teeth.

Endodontics (Root Canal)
Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is the process of removing infected, injured or dead pulp from your tooth. And fill the space where the pulp structure was with a filling material. This procedure is done to keep the tooth which otherwise would have to be extracted.
